From a single idea in 1998 to a national network of grass-roots development projects across the country in 2009, Vukani-Ubuntu represents a victory of cooperative spirit that welled up from the desire to improve life for previously disadvantaged communities.

Project Management

Since 1998, Vukani has established 13 successful community development projects in 5 provinces and fundraised more than R 140-million from over 30 local and international donors including the EU. All the Vukani projects are still in existence.

Training & Up Skilling

Training & Up Skilling

Vukani created a unique model, the Integrated Sustainable Development Model (ISD), following the “Social Venture Capital” model (or “Social Capitalism”, as it’s called in America). The ISD model is essentially a collaboration between private funders and existing SMME training facilities. Vukani has trained/incubated over 700 HDIs & SMMEs.

Enterprise Development

Enterprise Development

Vukani established a Co-Op between the 5 major community development organisations in SA. Vukani’s brainchild, FairMade Jewellery, empowers marginalised communities to become self-sustainable by aligning with local and international markets:
